  1. Patch file for creating WILDCAT! v3.51
  2.  
  3. v3.51 is a maintenance release to v3.50 made available on July 6, 1992.
  4. It is a free update to all registered users since it is only a
  5. manintenance version with no new features.
  6.  
  7. It was released as a patch file available electronically on this BBS and
  8. will be incorporated into a mailing to subscribers to the Auto-Update
  9. Plan in the coming weeks.  We immediately released the patch when a
  10. specific problem was enountered with WILDCAT! addressing some unique
  11. interrupt controllers, since we want affected users to have immediate
  12. access to a solution. The AUP mailing will be sent after additional
  13. history on v3.5 has been accumulated.

  18. Application of this patch to a licensed WILDCAT! v3.50 will actually change
  19. the code to make it identical to the new version 3.51. It does absolutely
  20. nothing without being applied to a registered, commercial WILDCAT! v3.50.

  23.   It will ONLY operate on a registered commercial copy of WILDCAT! v3.50,
  24.   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  25.    and is not a complete program. It is ONLY a patch which performs
  26.    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  27.   the update to version 3.51. It will NOT work on Test-Drive releases.

  31.    It may only be used by paid licensees of WILDCAT! v3.50 who purchased

  43. WILDCAT! v3.51 is a patch update that fixes a problem with the original
  44. release with a small number of systems. Complete details of the changes
  45. follow the update instructions.
  46.  
  47. The update program consists of two parts, the executable patch 
  48. program (PATCH.EXE) and the patch data files (WILDx.RPT). The patch
  49. data file contains all the information needed to make changes in 
  50. the old executable files and to track the application of patches,
  51. even after multiple updates have been performed.
  52.  
  53. To perform the update follow these simple instructions:
  54.  
  55. 1.  Copy the patch file to your WILDCAT! home directory (where
  56.     WILDCAT.EXE and WILDCAT.OVR are located)
  57.  
  58. 2.  Extract the patch files from the self-extracting archive by
  59.     typing WILD-x where the x is your version, S, M, or P.
  60.            ^^^^^^
  61. 3.  Before beginning the patch process, make certain that all WILDCAT!
  62.     and TOMCAT executable files are present including .EXE and OVR files.
  63.     If any are missing the patch program will not run.
  64.  
  65. 4.  From the WILDCAT! directory type PATCH WILDx and press <ENTER> to
  66.     update the WILDCAT! files.       ^^^^^^^^^^^

  68. 5.  From the WILDCAT! directory type PATCH TOMCAT and press <ENTER> to
  69.     update the TOMCAT! files.        ^^^^^^^^^^^^
  70.  
  71. 6.  A successful patch process results in a screen indicating that no
  72.     errors were encountered.

  74. This maintenance update is provided free of charge.

  78. The changes to WILDCAT! v3.51 were made to allow it to properly handle
  79. opening and closing com ports on some interrupt controllers. The change
  80. is needed by a small portion of our installed base. The symptoms of
  81. needing the changes in v3.51 include:
  82.  
  83. - Failure of the main WILDCAT! program after startup, usually between the
  84.   first name prompt and logon.
  85.  
  86. - Failure of doors to execute or pass control back to WILDCAT! properly.
  87.  
  88. - Lock-ups in doors.
  89.  
  90. - Failure of TOMCAT! to load or pass control back to WILDCAT! properly.
